Anti-COrruption
Anti-corruption
Working with variety of different federal law enforcement agencies for almost a quarter of a century, the CDLU has successfully investigated and exposed corruption, leading to numerous federal indictments, convictions, and federal settlements.
Our work also provoked three U.S. Congressional investigations and hearings.
The CDLU investigates unsavory business practices and abuses by corporations, and when we find something indicating criminal misconduct or corruption, the CDLU immediately reports the allegations to law enforcement.
Our critical work has led to the imprisonment of greedy fraudsters to creepy child predators. Some of our accomplishments include:
- In 2020, a S. Attorney was forced to resign after the CDLU reported alleged misconduct and provided photos to the Office of Professional Responsibility of the U.S. Attorney inappropriately having cocktails with the CEO of an electric utility, allegedly at the height of a criminal trial involving corrupt vendors and providers of the electric utility.
- CDLU’s work exposing systematic price-gouging and upcoding by hospitals led to one of the largest hospital chains paying $900 million to resolve false claim allegations with the U.S. Department of Justice.
- In 2006, CDLU’s investigation into religious fraud let to the arrest of multiple individuals by the U.S. Department of Treasury and the Office of Foreign Assets Control for selling illegal vacation trips to Cuba under the guise of “religious” travel. From San Francisco to Philadelphia, from San Pedro to Miami, we worked with the U.S. Department of Treasury to shut down these illegal operations.
- CDLU’s investigation of an unsavory law firm eventually led to the indictment of the former CEO of an aerospace company who defrauded the U.S. government in relationship to the conflict in Afghanistan. The CDLU provided evidence to and worked directly with the Office of the Special Counsel of the U.S. Department of Justice. The investigation provoked by the CDLU eventually included involvement of the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command and the Office of the Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Defense.
- The CDLU reached out to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security after a former attorney for an unsavory law firm was arrested for soliciting a child online for sex. Because of our involvement, less than a year later, the suspect was indicted for possession of child pornography, and eventually, in 2023, the sexual predator was sentenced to eight years in federal prison.
